The Best Sloppy Joes

This recipe for Sloppy Joes is an easy-to-make dinner when you don’t feel like making dinner. I pulled this together in 20 minutes, mainly out of pantry ingredients, and served it with a side of potato salad. It’s an American classic, comfort food, and it got the fellas’ stamp of approval!

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/2 yellow onion, chopped
  • 1/2 green pepper, chopped (I used a red one, it’s what I had on hand)
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons yellow mustard
  • 3/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon light brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • hamburger rolls
  1. Over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef, drain the excess liquid. Add the butter, onions, and peppers and cook for several minutes.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk the garlic, mustard, ketchup, light brown sugar, salt and pepper. Add to the beef mixture and cook over medium heat for 5 minutes.
  3. Serve on toasted rolls.
