Back in 2017, I had what I thought was a pretty good idea for replicating the size and shape of my beloved Sketchbook from Heaven by cleaving a 9-inch by 12-inch drawing pad into two 9-inch by 6-inch pads. It worked in that I had two landscape tablets to sketch in that would easily travel, but they weren’t magic like the cheap little pad from Target. I don’t know what made that cheap little sketchbook so special but it was. It was always at hand begging to be drawn in, and I was pleased with what I scrawled across its pages. This was not the case with the half-a-sketchbook. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t magic. I finished the first half, and I put the other half aside for later.
Eventually later came, and I grabbed the other half and worked my way through it. It’s a Canson Mixed Media pad and it has a nice, heavyweight paper that will take both wet and dry media without wrinkling. I hammered away at it with 2mm leads of various colors, water soluble graphite, markers and Progresso woodless color pencils. They are mainly doodles, notions and story ideas. I just had fun usually while watching trash television.
